An evening of live music & poetic intoxications. Mark Waddell performs from his collection On the Cusp of Greatness with music from The Astonished Man and R.W Hedges.
Mark Waddell is a new breed of comedy-poet-libertine for a modern generation. More at home in a bar than a library, Mark takes his poems to the masses with his live shows. Sometimes he is thrown off stage, sometimes people fight over his poems; some of his poems have punchlines, sometimes no punches are pulled. Once a regular performer at The Torriano, the legendary London venue known for performances by Pete Doherty, Noel Fielding, Scott McMahon and Lianne La Havas, he cut his teeth with the wildest.
Mark is also known for the street signs that keep popping up across London’s Kentish Town. A passer-by named Cuthbert, with an impressive intergalactic afro hair-do, said to him one morning, ‘you’ve made my day’ – whilst staring up at a sign that read ‘on the cusp of greatness’. He hopes his collection will do the same for you. His fiction has been published in the UK and Philippines and his poems have appeared in Great Poets of the 21st Century by The Imaginary Press.
Daniel Towler will be opening proceedings on the night with a mixed set of songs from his previous band the High Priests and also playing some new songs from his latest venture The Astonished Man, unpolished country rock soul psyche with a lean towards the unpredictable. There will also be songs from his new E.P due for release on Magus records in mid-October having their first airing on the night.
The right honourable R.W.Hedges will be playing with his new band songs from his forthcoming album Hunters in the Snow, due for release late Autumn 2017 on wonderful sound records. Expect a set of hauntingly beautiful melodies, confessional folk soul and poetic word play. It will be exciting to have him play many new tracks from the new record as yet barely aired in public, powerful songs delivered with a timeless character and class.
