Join us as we welcome Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff and Sara Jafari to read from and discuss I WILL NOT BE ERASED, a new essay collection from gal-dem exploring what it means to grow up as a person of colour.
I WILL NOT BE ERASED features 14 joyous, funny and life-affirming essays from gal-dem, the award-winning online and print magazine created by young women and non-binary people of colour.
In this thought-provoking and moving collection, gal-dem's writers use raw material from their teenage years – diaries, poems and chat histories – to explore growing up. gal-dem have been described by the Guardian as "the agents of change we need", and these essays tackle important subjects including race, gender, mental health and activism, making this essential reading for any young person.
Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff is an award-winning journalist and editor, writing about race, feminism, culture and social politics. She is deputy editor at gal-dem, a columnist at the i paper, a writer and editor for Dazed, and a freelance journalist for the Guardian, the FT, and VICE. In 2017 Charlie won the Georgina Henry Award for Innovation in Journalism, and she is also a regular panelist and speaker on radio and TV.
Sara Jafari is a writer, and former Flight 1000 Associate with Spread The Word. She writes short stories, and has written one novel. Sara has been published in Syrup Magazine, Tales Magazine, Flight Journal and Spread The Word. She also works as an Editorial Assistant at Harper Collins, and runs her own literary and arts magazine TOKEN Magazine.
