This month marks the 20th anniversary of the incredible flipped eye publishing, and we are delighted to be hosting a discussion between two of our favourite flipped eye poets to help celebrate! Join us on 27 May when we welcome Amina Jama (author of A WARNING TO THE HOUSE THAT HOLDS ME) and Roger Robinson (author of the T.S. Eliot Prize-winning A PORTABLE PARADISE) to read from and discuss their work via Instagram Live.

Winning global acclaim for being a champion of compelling work, flipped eye publishing has been publishing affordable culture from the margins of British society since 2001. As an incubator for talent, flipped eye focuses on cultivating potential, as opposed to producing rapid output, with publications a manifestation of long-term dialogue between editors and authors over several years. Award-winning authors who were discovered, developed or launched by flipped eye include Roger Robinson, Warsan Shire, Inua Ellams, Malika Booker, Miriam Nash, Nick Makoha and more.

Roger Robinson is the winner of the T.S. Eliot prize in 2019 for his collection A PORTABLE PARADISE. He was chosen by Decibel as one of 50 writers who have influenced the black-British writing canon. He received commissions from The National Trust, London Open House, BBC, The National Portrait Gallery, V&A, and Theatre Royal Stratford East where he also was an associate artist. His first collection of poems, Suitcase, was with flipped eye in October 2004.

Amina Jama is a Somali-British writer. She is an alumni of Barbican Young Poets, co-host of BoxedIN and member of Octavia WOC Collective. Her work explores displacement, dual cultural identity and family. She has been published in The Things I Would Tell You, a Saqi Books anthology, and Rising Stars children’s anthology and has been commissioned by the BBC, The Queens Gallery, Buckingham Palace, and the London Mayors Office. Her debut collection is A WARNING TO THE HOUSE THAT HOLDS ME (flipped eye, 2019).
